Aidan Hennessey

Head Coach

Aidan rowed for the University of Minnesota, graduating in the class of 2012. He moved to Seattle shortly after graduation and has been coaching ever since. Aidan has coached for several teams in the Seattle area, including Sammamish Rowing Association and Seattle University. He is excited for the opportunity to be working with WWU Men's crew as our full time head coach!

Charlie Hamlin

Assistant Coach, Novice Coach 

Coach Hamlin recently did a soft retirement to Bellingham and comes to Western with a lifetime of rowing, coaching, and management experience. A collegiate oarsman for Harvard from 1966-1970, Charlie continued his rowing career on the world stage with appearances on the US Olympic team and multiple national teams. Charlie is still an active masters rower, racing numerous times a year around the country and world, and holds the indoor 2k world record for the 65+ age category. Coach Hamlin is our resident rigging and technical expert, chief in charge of getting the novices to row well!

Will Ruth

Strength Coach

Will rowed in high school in Olympia before coming to Western, where he played lacrosse, and currently competes in the sport of Strongman. He holds a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist certification (CSCS) as well as USA-Weightlifting Level 1, and graduated from Western in Spring ’14 with a BS in Kinesiology, focusing in Sport Psychology. Will is also US-Rowing L2 certified, a Rowperfect UK author, and is currently pursuing an MA degree through the University of Denver in Sport Coaching. Coach Will started with the team as strength coach in 2013 and joins the staff this year as an assistant coach as well.
